Who we are
AP automation, connected to your ERP
MetaViewer is the AP automation and paperless document management solution built by Metafile Information Systems, Inc. We automate the document work behind accounts payable, accounts receivable, and HR, then connect it into the ERP a finance team already runs.
Our customers are mid-market companies across North America, most of them on Microsoft Dynamics or Acumatica. We are headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and we have been doing this since 1979. Since August 2021, MetaViewer has been part of Volaris Group, an operating group of Constellation Software Inc.

Why we exist
The last place AP is still done by hand
Accounts payable is one of the last places in a finance stack where the work is still done by hand. Invoices get keyed twice. Approvals get chased over email. Month-end turns into a search for paper.
We exist to give that time back. We use technology to simplify everyday work through automation, so finance teams get back the currency of time, and so the partnerships we build last longer than a contract term.
Our story
We did not start out in accounts payable
1979
A paperless pioneer
Allan Sprau founds the company in Rochester, Minnesota, after moving from Philadelphia. It is called Sensor-Based Systems — the first computer has 16 KB of memory, and the first customer is a radio station in Preston, Minnesota.
1980s–1990s
The document-management DNA
The team builds a database language called Metafile, moves into image storage and retrieval, then into Computer Output to Laser Disk. That is where the document-management expertise comes from.
MetaViewer launches
Paperless automation for AP, AR, and HR
Built to sit alongside an ERP rather than replace one.
2021
Joins Volaris Group
In August, MetaViewer joins Volaris Group, part of Constellation Software Inc.
2026
SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA audited
SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA audits are completed with A-LIGN, formalizing the security and compliance posture finance teams require.
